Marshall Islander Niten Anni joined a group of a dozen Pacific Climate Warriors representing the group 350.org for a portion of a 1,500 kilometer walk from Rome to Paris to raise awareness about the impacts of climate change.
On Friday, the group was blessed by Pope Francis at the Vatican before embarking on the climate pilgrimage.
Anni, a USP student and familiar face in movies produced by Jack Niedenthal and Suzanne Chutaro, joined the Pacific team, which is marching with Yeb Saño, the former Philippines’ climate ambassador, who  is leading the People’s Pilgrimage now in motion.
Koreti Tiumalu, Pacific Coordinator for 350.org said this was an opportune moment to show solidarity before world leaders meet in a global climate summit in Paris at the end of the year. “We are marching with the Pilgrims to show the interconnectedness of the climate crisis and the stand in solidarity with people all over the world hoping for a fair, just, legally binding agreement out of (the Paris summit) that will ensure the survival of the small island states,” Tiumalu said.
