Famed former NBA Coach for Dallas Mavericks Tom Newell visited students attending Majuro Middle School Tuesday afternoon. This followed a talk with Marshall Islands High School seniors and a visit to Ejit Island Monday.

Newell received a large crowd of students.

“You have to eat right to play right,” Newell told the kids.

In his own method relating to the islands, Newell captivated the attention of his crowd and it shows by the constant laughter and small giggles from the students.

The kids had the chance to hold and feel Newell’s championship ring he got from the Maverick’s victory in 2011 when they defeated the Miami Heat.

Later, Newell donated scrubs and medical wear at the Leiroij Atma Zedkaia Hospital.

He departs Majuro Saturday January 9 for Kwajalein and Ebeye, where he will spend nine days conducting clinics and talking to students and young people, before continuing on to the Federated States of Micronesia and Palau.
