Elson Helkena and his grandson Quintin thanked the medical staff at Shriners Hospital for Children in Honolulu last week following successful burn treatment over a three-year period.

Quintin and his grandfather presented Dr. Vincent Nip with island handicrafts following Quintin’s third and possibly last visit for burn treatment and rehabilitation. Nip is a plastic surgeon. They also visited with Dr. Craig Ono, the chief of staff at Shriners, to thank him for the help and treatment Quintin received over the past three years.

Orthopedic physician Dr. Jonathan Pellett was also involved in Quintin’s surgeries to repair damage from a severe burn he suffered on his arm, side and torso in Majuro over five years ago. Pellett came to Majuro in 2012 where he first saw Quintin’s burns and helped organize Quintin’s referral to Shriners for follow up. Quintin spent months at a time in Honolulu for the treatment. Shriners assisted him with tutors so he wouldn’t fall behind in school.
