Air Marshall Islands (AMI) staff Dick “Danny” Hanchor, Jr. and Christopher Jelke left Majuro Sunday to pursue their pilot licenses.
The two departed on Nauru Airlines for an 18-month training at the Pacific Flying School Academy in Nadi, Fiji.
AMI General Manager Drauna Waqasokolala said that besides the lectures and practical activities on the ground, Danny and Christopher will participate in various airtime events to build up their required 250 hours air time to be eligible to fly independently.
The cost of the training per student is about $70,000. It includes courses, off campus accommodation, housekeeping, and meals.
The RMI National Training Council covers 60 percent of the cost for both Danny and Christopher. The matching 40 percent is handled by AMI.
