Eight PNA countries plus Tokelau celebrated Wednesday night with a groundbreaking ceremony for a new four-story headquarters building, set to replace the old Won Hai Shien building on Uliga Dock on Majuro.

Ministers from the member countries donned helmets and vests and shoveled dirt, commemorating the event. The event was held in the lead up to Friday’s second PNA Leaders Summit held in Majuro.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Assistant Secretary Doreen deBrum emceed the brief groundbreaking ceremony and introduced PNA CEO Ludwig Kumoru, who in his remarks, said that the tuna is “our resource, that He meant it for us, and we should take care of it for us.”

The new four-story, 18,600 square feet structure will be built by Pacific International Inc.

The Parties to the Nauru Agreement are comprised of Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Solomon Islands and Tuvalu. Tokelau participates in PNA’s Vessel Day Scheme.
