Prior to attending the 49th Pacific Islands Forum and related meetings in Nauru, President Hilda Heine received a courtesy call from outgoing ROC Ambassador Daniel Tang. President Heine extended her appreciation to Ambassador Tang for his two years here in RMI.

Following her return from Nauru September 7, President Heine accepted the Letter of Credence of newly appointed ROC-Taiwan Ambassador to the RMI Jeffrey SC Hsiao. President Heine welcomed the new ambassador to the Marshall Islands.

She acknowledged the historical ties between the two nations dates back to the Austronesian heritage. Diplomatic relations that were established between the two nations on November 20, 1998 have contributed significantly to the socio-economic welfare of the RMI, Heine said.

Ambassador Hsiao previously served as a Director General for the Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Surabaya, Indonesia and Deputy Director General Southern Taiwan Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Taiwan.
