President Hilda Heine called on the entire Marshallese community, — government agencies, non-government offices and churches and diplomatic allies to help the Ministry of Health in the battle against Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) during the opening of the first NCD Summit Tuesday at the International Conference Center.

“The time for talk is over,” Heine said. “The time for action is now. Four years ago, then president Christopher Loeak declared a state of emergency on NCDs, yet four years later RMI is ranked the highest in the world on NCDs. Everyone needs to commit.”

Heine said legislative bills will be reintroduced to increase taxes on alcohol and tobacco and decrease taxes on healthy produces and food.

My support is 100 percent, Heine said.
