USP Vice Chancellor and President Prof. Rajesh Chandra and RMI Ambassador to Fiji Ruben Zackhras signed off in late May on an agreement that allows work to proceed on developing a new USP Campus in Majuro.

The University of the South Pacific (USP) and the RMI government signed a Deed of Assignment on May 26 in Suva.

The signing enables USP to initiate all renovation work on the Long Island, Majuro property that the RMI government has allocated for the University to develop its campus.

Speaking during the signing at the RMI Embassy, USP Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Rajesh Chandra expressed his gratitude to RMI Ambassador to Fiji Ruben Zackhras.

Chandra said that he had been personally involved in this project for many years and thanked President Heine and the RMI government for valuing education.

Talking about the tender, Professor Chandra said that USP was going to consider the tender (bid) for renovation at the tender board meeting this week.

“We have partly through the generosity of your government and partly through USP’s contribution found all the money that will allow us to have the tender awarded,” he told Zackhras.

Chandra mentioned that in the recent USP Council meeting, the Council endorsed the proposal of establishing a Micronesian Center for Sustainable Transportation and USP has undertaken to work closely with RMI government to secure and provide resources for it.
