A group of around 30 teachers got together last week at the Graphic Novel and Comic Workshop at the USP Long Island campus. A day earlier, a group of Ejit Elementary and Majuro Cooperative school students got together to do similar creative work. The workshops involved teachers and students in learning how graphic novels and comics could be useful teaching tools. Hawaiian artist, Solomon Enos, along with Dr. Michelle Keown, and Dr. Shari Sabeti from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, led the workshop. During the workshop, Enos presented sections of his graphic novel, which is based on Marshallese author Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner’s poem, “History Project,” looking for recommendations from the workshop attendees.
