Payless knows how to host a grand opening — from making it ‘snow’ in its parking lot to filling the road and radio with the upbeat music of Power 103.5FM radio (who braved the sweltering lot from 10 am till late noon) — there was no way anyone could have missed the celebration of its new showroom and water center.

DJ Yastamon invited curious kids, incoming customers, and the occasional passerby to give a “shout-out” in exchange for a $10 gift certificate and a ‘Free Wash’ coupon. Young boys walked out of the Payless Supermarket doors with bags of junk food half their sizes, while ladies armed with basketfuls of clothes crowded the detergent-scented laundromat.

The showroom had staff ready at hand to display the pristine vehicles housed in a glass enclosure. The impressive water center, decked out with a rinsing and filling station, had a stream of customers throughout the day filling gallons with fresh, clean water.

Guam-based Triple J Payless Manager Mike Burgess was on island for the opening.
