No more two-hour bus rides to the College of the Marshall Islands (CMI) now that commuting students from Ajeltake to Laura have been gifted with a new library at CMI-Arrak campus. The Arrak campus is conveniently located for students living in the Ajeltake to Laura area.
The Arrak campus held an opening ceremony last week complete with a tour of the new development for guests and dignitaries including US Ambassador Karen Stewart, staff and students from CMI and the Adult Basic Education Program, and community members.
CMI’s Physical Plant team fully refurbished two trailers, transforming one into a computer lab area with internet access. The other they turned into a reading and study area outfitted with a storage room as well as restrooms. The team also built in a room between the two trailers for a front desk area and a conference room.
Stanley Lorennij, Arrak’s Dean and Acting Director, counts this as a big win for the students who only have travel minutes instead of hours for research and studies. CMI President Dr. Theresa Koroivulaono commended the campus for its progressive students-first mindset.
