2 accidents, no injuries

A car slammed into a power pole next to Rairok Protestant Church in the early morning hours Wednesday, causing a power outage for half the island.

The one-car accident was reportedly the result of drunk driving. The driver ran away from the vehicle. The crash wiped out the power pole, according to Marshalls Energy Company distribution workers who were quickly dispatched to the site to replace the damaged pole.

On Monday morning, drivers heading into town from the Laura side were greeted with a two-car crash on the road by the airport runway. The accident is said to have occurred at high speed as vehicles were attempting to pass slower vehicles. The result, two totaled vehicles but reportedly — and remarkably — no serious injuries.
