Basketball continues to be the sport of choice among Marshallese regardless of age as evident by the large turnout in the two-day Marshall Islands Basketball Federation-sponsored basketball clinic over the weekend.

The mini-clinic catered to children ages 8 to 14 where basketball fundamentals were taught by members of the national basketball men’s and women’s teams.

According to Coach Joshua Lanki, more kids showed up than anticipated. Joshua estimated over 50 young sports enthusiasts participated in the program.

Other than being coached by the biggest names in the game, the kids were treated to free lunch.

Members of the program said they are planning on hosting similar clinics in the near future so that basketball clinics would one day be a norm.
