P2 Editorial
Last month, a boy from Kili died in Honolulu of cancer, according to one of their leaders. The boy was born on Bikini in the early 1970s and lived there until the people were moved in 1978 due to high radiation accumulation in their bodies. One must wonder, was he a victim of the hasty return to Bikini without thorough radiation studies?

P1 Channel project, new fish base operational
Another weekend of politics wended its way into history, as the Marshall Islands progressed toward the final week before the election to be held next Monday, November 18. This second-to-the-last week saw most political related activity coming from the majority party camp of the government. For starters, Thursday evening was handled out of Lanai, with a 4pm ceremony to celebrate the handing over of the local fishery development project. This second phase project, which included widening of the small boat channel’s entrance and construction of a substantial jetty, was found necessary due to the fact that small boats using the channel were experiencing too many difficulties entering and exiting the lagoon. The next big event of the weekend was typically American in that it was very, very informal: the grand opening and celebration of the Majuro new fishing base. Japan funded both developments.

P1 Who will win?
Is President Jurelang Zedkaia’s slim majority in Nitijela in danger in Monday’s national election? Will Ralik leadership take control of Nitijela when it convenes to elect a new President in January? Who will be elected President in January — Jurelang, Tony, Christopher, Kessai, Alvin, Michael or someone else? The November 21 vote comes at a pivotal time for the Marshall Islands: US funding is decreasing; the US government is proposing to limit the entry of Marshallese to the US in the future; public schools and health conditions here are evidencing little improvement despite huge infusions of cash; theft, fraud and procurement violations within the RMI government continue; the Marshall Islands Social Security Administration teeters on the precipice of bankruptcy; Air Marshall Islands continues to gobble scare government money while providing unreliable service to the outer islands; high unemployment is affecting a large sector of our community, with few new jobs created over the past 10 years.
P40 Saane hits 9 grand slams
MISSA’s record of nine years of spotless audits is an incredible accomplishment, said MISSA fund manager Frank Armstrong, who visited Majuro last week to deliver his company’s annual investment report to the retirement agency. “Nine consecutive years (of findings-free audits) is a phenomenal accomplishment,” he said. “It’s like hitting a grand slam homerun in the ninth inning — nine years in a row.”
