P8 What kind fish?
Police arrested a man last Saturday morning after he speared a woman standing outside the Blue Pacific Bar, according to police. As the man approached with a spear, one of the bystanders asked if he’d caught any fish to which he purportedly replied no but he was about to catch one. He then tried to spear one of the girl’s feet but missed his first attempt. Then he pointed the spear at the girl’s head and pulled the rubber. She was taken to the hospital, treated and later released. The man was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

P1 MEC’s in the money
The Marshalls Energy Company looks positioned to make 2012 a year of accomplishment. Earlier this week, General Manager David Paul confirmed that the US Rural Utility Service (RUS) has approved a $2.3 million grant to pay for the cost of a complete overhaul of engine number seven at the Majuro power plant. This, combined with a $2.1 million loan payment deferment by RUS and installation of another thousand home pre-paid meters, will result in fuel savings, more customer control of power usage, and improved operations at MEC. “It’s great news and a big relief,” said Paul of the grant approval by RUS. Paul credited Bill Graham who put together the grant for MEC that won the RUS grant.
P3 AG finding fraud in many areas
RMI Attorney General’s and National Police investigation into government fraud is expanding into new areas, according to Acting AG Tubosoye Brown. But both the investigation team and the courts are short-handed to deal with the level of fraud investigation and prosecutions, he said. At every turn the investigation is turning up new instances of fraud, he said. The level of fraud being unearthed is “far beyond our capability to handle,” he said of not just the AG’s office but the court system. “The more we try to file cases, the audits keep revealing outrageous fraud,” said Brown. “Where do we start and stop? The end is not in sight.”
