Arno Parliament Member Gerald Zackios was sworn in as Minister of Education, Sports and Training Monday at the Cabinet Conference Room.

Minister Gerald acknowledged gratitude to his predecessor former Minister Joe Bejang, adding that the two had met and discussed the way forward to help Gerald through a smooth transition.

Lib Parliament Member Bejang resigned his Cabinet post effective the first week of December to focus on personal matters.

President Hilda Heine congratulated Minister Gerald on taking up the post and conveyed her confidence with her appointment of him.

Minister Gerald reiterated President Hilda’s message on the importance of the education sector.

He is no stranger to being in Cabinet. He was a Cabinet minister during Kessai Note’s two terms as president in the early 2000s, including as foreign minister. Minister Gerald was RMI ambassador to the United States prior to winning his election bid in 2023 to return to Nitijela.

The event was witnessed by Nitijela Members and family members.

Gerald’s daughter Katt Chong Gum held the Bible during her father’s oath ceremony with High Court Chief Justice Carl Ingram.
