US Ambassador Laura Stone attended the turnover of two housing projects under the US Department of Agriculture and the Marshall Islands Development Bank in Jenrok and Delap earlier this month.
Ambassador Stone praised the efforts of the housing program, stating that they demonstrate the partnership between the Marshall Islands and the United States. “This serves as a strong reminder of how the US-RMI partnership benefits the Marshall Islands,” she said.
John Zedkaia, the borrower of funds that were used to build the two-story house in Jenrok, said that he hopes the house will be a place of making memories for his children.
“Hopefully, this will be a home for my children for many years and a place for them to make memories,” he said.
Livai Livai, the borrower of a small blue house in Delap, said the housing program helps vulnerable families.
“This program has helped me a lot as someone who is not able to afford to buy a house,” he said. “The family who is looking for help from the USDA and the Development Bank, this is a program that will help all families in need.”
Attending the turnover with Ambassador Stone were MIDB’s Managing Director Dwight Heine, USDA Area Specialist Zedkaia Zedkaia and USDA staffers.
