Not having the “black and white” in hand to report to our readers the final results of the Marshalls Billfish Club’s 31st annual All Micronesia Fishing Tournament, what we can say is that a lot of fish were caught this past weekend around Majuro and Arno. And a lot of fishermen from all over the place had a heck of a lot of fun. What else could a tournament offer and a fisher or an observer ask for?

We noted Kirt Pinho zoomed over on his hotrod to enjoy the festivities at weigh-in time at the MBC clubhouse. He was immediately beset upon by what seemed like a thousand relatives and friends. Kirt was probably the only person at dockside last weekend aside from Ramsey Reimers and Wally Milne who can claim to have been at the first MBC tournament in Majuro in 1983 when the organization was founded.

Meantime, former Australian Ambassador Brek Batley was back in town for a weekend fishing jaunt and, naturally, caught some fish.

Team Nauru did just fine, thank you, reeling in a big marlin and a qualifying wahoo.

In our estimation, Captain Robin Reimers, who led Team RMI II, may have had the best weekend. On day one, his team hauled in a 114-pound yellowfin tuna that set a new All Mike second place tournament record for tunas. The next day, RMI II reeled in a 260-pound marlin and several tuna, including 74-pound yellowfin destined to provide sashimi dinner for about 40 people.

There was lots more, but you get the idea. A good fishing weekend in Majuro thanks to MBC and its many sponsors.
