No really big fish were caught at last weekend’s two-day Budweiser All Micronesia Fishing Tournament — “big” according to Marshall Islands angling history. The winning marlin was caught by Team KBE weighing in at 198 pounds.
Overall, plenty of qualifying fish, including 12 marlin, lots of tuna and a nearly record breaking barracuda were caught by the 20 teams in the competition.
Team Majuro 2 won top honors with 769 total points; Team Elenak Kwajalein took second, and Team KBE won third place. Team Japan reeled in the heaviest tuna at 95 pounds. Ronnie Reimers on Team RMI 2 caught a 40 pound barracuda, one pound below the record set in 2018 by Team Samurai.
