P1 Rain drops 100,000 gallons
About 100,000 gallons of water were caught early March 7 to bring up the total amount oof rain water at the reservoir to about 400,000 gallons, according to Noel Bigler, secretary of Public Works. The water was on for one hour Monday.

P8 AMI wants to fly to Ponape
The Board of Directors of Air Marshall Islands is considering a proposal from airline manager Tom Green to conduct a demonstration flight of the 748 to Ponape, the government Gazette reported last week.

P1 No relief from El Niño
The Marshall Islands is feeling the brunt of El Niño,the weather phenomenon that has brought the current drought… “The current El Niño shows no signs of weakening and should persist at least for the next few months,” reported the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Pacific Pure Water is out of its sole product: Water….the last water that the purification business processed was late last week.

The Bukot Nan Jesus Church held its opening ceremony last Saturday in Delap. The church was rocking with lively music, led by pastor Hense Hensene, a full house for the service and meal that followed.

P21 All in a day’s work
Marshalls Energy Company’s meter-reader Bobo Lucky has one of the most interesting job descriptions on island. In addition to reading meters around Majuro and cutting power to non-payers, he checks the 30 or so homes on Ejit Island that were connected to power last summer. To get there he walks the reef at low tide, picking up a stick enroute to ward off over-aggressive dogs on Ejit.

P24 Big billfish prize
A pair of 100+ pound fish highlighted the day’s catch in the Marshalls Billfish Club’s Leap Year Jackpot Fishing Derby last Saturday. Baron Bigler and his Jinekjij crew of Ronnie Reimers and Steven Phillip weighed in the biggest billfish, a 108 pound marlin, to pick up a $1,710 check. Jiba Kabul picked up a $720 check for the day’s only other marlin, a 103-pounder.

P5 Majuro holds its breath for rain
Fresh watkerlevelsatthe airport reservoir continue to drop. MWSC reported this week that the reservoir had only 8.6 million gallons, which is about a seven-to-eight day supply at current pumping rates.

P12 Kaiko and Kabua happy to join MIPD
Marshall Islands police Department has a new Assistant Commissioner in Harris Kaiko, who before joining the police worked with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 19 years. New captain of Corrections and Rehabilitation is Bouliej P. Kabua. He said he is happy to have joined the national police. Kabua was a counselor with Waan Aelon in Majel since 2008 until recently taking up the police job.
