The latest stomping grounds to combat non-communicable diseases (NCDs) — the Jisam Kaisha Multipurpose Basketball Court — was christened Tuesday at Teron weto in Rita.
The court is named in honor of the late Jisam Kaisha, a longtime Majuro Atoll Local Government (MALGov) councilman and huge supporter of sports.
The court adds yet another visual sign of the Republic of China, Taiwan and MALGov partnership across Majuro. MALGov has been erecting multipurpose courts across Majuro with funding from Taiwan.
MALGov Mayor Ladie Jack reiterated the importance of sports in the atoll and thanked the continued partnership with the ROC.
Rita Councilman Arlington Tibon delivered the welcoming and note of thanks to VIPs attending the event, which included Majuro parliament members, representative from ROC, MALGov leadership and traditional leaders.
In the event, several new scooters were included in the christening ceremony.
The scooters will be used to patrol Majuro.
The court is a hub for three-on-three basketball tournament and continues to be a popular center for village volleyball leagues.
