Plans are moving ahead for a new landfill dumpsite ocean side of the Jenrok area of downtown Majuro.
The government is now seeking bids from qualified companies to produce a “detailed design” for the new landfill. Majuro Atoll Waste Company Manager Jorelik Tibon said he anticipates it will take about 90 days to produce the design, after which bids can be put out for construction of the new facility.
The current landfill in the Batkan/Jable area of Majuro ran out of space several years ago.
The aim, once the facility is built, is to begin accepting refuse at a point on the north side of the Marshall Islands Club. Over time, the facility will extend north to a section of Jenrok.
