The report from team leader Jacque Spence is that “in just 10 days, the Canvasback Missions Ophthalmology team and Health Service nurses and staff accomplished an amazing amount of work.”
From June 16 to 27, the “team worked tirelessly,” Jacque told the Journal. “They were led by Dr. Annie Chong Gum and Agnes Flood in the clinic.” They ensured that “we were able to see 504 patients! It was all hands-on-deck.”
Jacque said that while they brought a large group of professionals, the Majuro hospital staff was invaluable.
“Nurse Henritha Henry helped to schedule patients and Elizabeth Jack volunteered to help with patients care and translation.”
Early mornings and late evenings saw the medical staff on the clock: “The Canvasback team and the hospital’s operating room staff worked late hours. We couldn’t have accomplished the amount of work without nurse Zaly Panaguiton, who served as our scrub tech. As well, Nurse Sarah Anni tirelessly cared for the surgery patients and Kranchy Minor ensured that all our instruments were properly sterilized.”
The end result was that in just 10 days, the team saw 504 patients and performed 179 surgeries. Another success story from Canvasback Missions.
