A Pacific International Inc. tug boat saved a Maersk container vessel carrying over 9,000 containers of goods.
The vessel, Maersk Saltoro, was experiencing engine problems west of Pohnpei on its voyage to China.
PII’s Marshall Islands Towing and Salvage Company “deployed its tug LT-804 on January 22 to assist the container ship, which was adrift approximately 550 miles west of Pohnpei due to main engine issues,” PII CEO Jerry Kramer said at the weekend.
“Before rendering assistance, LT-804 stopped in Kosrae to pick up four technicians. The Maersk Saltoro, reportedly carrying over 9,000 containers, has now been successfully recovered.”
The vessel released the tug and resumed its voyage following the intervention by the tug boat that is based in Majuro.
