P7 Kendall: Marshall Islands fully capable of self-government
Acting President Wilfred Kendall told visiting US Congressmen of the Marshalls’ “hope for true self-government in the best ideals of your own people, and that means an early end to the United Nations Trusteeship over our islands.” Later, Kendall added: “We hope you will carry back the message that we in the Marshall Islands are fully capable of self-government in the great ideals of the American Constitution, which are embodied in our own national Constitution.” Rep. John Seiberling, chairman of the House Subcommittee on National Parks and Public Lands which also has responsibility for the Trust Territory, led a group of Congressmen to the Marshall Islands.

The Nuclear Claims Tribunal concluded its second public hearing January 26 on the review of the list of 23 medical conditions presumed to be radiation-related. P12 Mili population expands by millions
The 1991 giant clam aquaculture season started with a successful spawning of the largest of the giant clam species at the Blue Island Hatchery site, reports Neal Skinner, director of Marshall Islands Aquatics. Several of the 40-pound broodstock giant clams were observed at the start of spawning last Tuesday. Quick action by Handleson Chutaro enabled the team to collect millions of fertilized eggs that, although growing very quickly will not be big enough to see for another three months. This marks the fourth successful spawning within the last 10 months for the Blue Island Hatchery.
P20 For DAR, a double hitter
Backroad Charlie is still at it, coming up with something new just about every time you look at him. This time it’s a brand new downtown location store, about six times the size of the little mom ’n pop sized one that he originally set up. Charlie Domnick had his troops move into the new location right next to the popular video outlet a day or two before Christmas. No fanfare, no big announcements. The store is stocked with all sorts of interesting things you just don’t see anywhere else. Charlie says he intends to modify the location where the little store was into a little restaurant coffee shop.

P3 Top LDS visit from Utah
The highest level visit that the Marshall Islands Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) has received from its Utah headquarters happened over the weekend with the presence of David A. Bednar, one of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles who head the LDS church. This was the first time that one of the Twelve Apostles — who oversee the LDS church — has visited the RMI. The Marshall Islands LDS church last year received its first “stake” — an indication of its growth in recent years.
