The RMI Embassy in Taiwan co-hosted a Trade and Investment Seminar with the Taichung City Government on December 9.
The event brought together government officials, business representatives, and industry partners to explore opportunities for enhanced trade and investment cooperation, in line with ongoing efforts to support sustainable economic development under the Economic Cooperation Agreement between the RMI and Taiwan.
The RMI delegation was led by Minister of Natural Resources and Commerce Tony Muller. In his remarks, Minister Muller encouraged Taichung City to invite its business community to consider investment opportunities in the RMI. He highlighted key sectors with strong potential for collaboration, including copra oil production, fisheries, and tourism.
Minister Muller emphasized that the enduring partnership between the RMI and Taiwan including that of major economic centers such as Taichung, supports shared goals for sustainable growth and strengthens the practical implementation of the Economic Cooperation Agreement between the two countries.
Taichung City’s Deputy Mayor delivered remarks expressing the city’s appreciation for the opportunity to co-host the seminar. He noted that Taichung is an ideal venue given its diverse commercial landscape, active private sector, and increasing interest in international partnerships. The Deputy Mayor emphasized that the timing of the event was particularly appropriate as Taichung encourages its industries to explore outward investment opportunities, especially with partners like the Marshall Islands which share a commitment to development, resilience, and regional stability.
He reiterated Taichung City’s valued friendship with the Marshall Islands and expressed appreciation for the RMI’s steadfast support for Taiwan in the international arena. He also acknowledged RMI Ambassador Anjanette Kattil’s strong cooperation, consistent engagement, and efforts to build deeper ties with the Taichung City Government.
As part of the activities held in conjunction with the Taichung Shopping Festival 2025, one of the city’s most popular annual events with wide public visibility, a special drawing was conducted featuring a grand prize of a round-trip ticket to the Marshall Islands.
Minister Muller, Ambassador Kattil, the Deputy Mayor, a senior official from Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Central Office, and senior Taichung City Government officials jointly participated in drawing the lucky winning number, an activity that helped raise public awareness of the Marshall Islands and further promoted tourism and people-to-people connections. Such initiatives complement broader efforts to expand economic cooperation and encourage increased commercial engagement between both sides.
The seminar marked an important step toward strengthening the growing partnership between the RMI and Taiwan and advancing shared priorities in trade, investment, and sustainable economic development, said Ambassador Kattil.
