Ronnie wins tourney

Team Kirtake with Captain Ronnie Reimers took out first place in Saturday’s Marshalls Billfish Club’s Total Qualifying Pounds Tuna and Lazarus Andrike Memorial Biggest Qualifying Yellowfin tournament.

Kirtake’s catch included four qualifying yellowfin tuna weighing 40, 50, 54, and 75 pounds, making a total of 219 pounds to take out the total qualifying pounds tuna and the 75-pounder gave them the Lazarus Memorial top place.

On top of this haul, Team Kirtake had a 141-pound Pacific blue marlin.

Nine teams took part in the tourney and the boats catching qualifying tuna included Team Jumbo, Captain Jojo Kramer, with three (53, 61, and 70 pounds); Team Lotujo, Captain Danny Paul, also with three (49, 51, and 56 pounds); and Team Nali, Captain Kyle Aliven, with two (42 and 43 pounds).

According to a release from the Billfish Club, the next fishing and final fishing derby for the 2024-2025 fishing year is the 43rd Annual Fishing Tournament to be held on July 4 and 5.

Registration and captain’s meeting will be on Wednesday, July 2, at the RRE barbecue area from 6pm.

In related Marshalls Billfish Club news, these are the latest President’s Cup points going into the July two-day tournament.

The top 10 fishermen are Wally Milne 3,344, Danny Paul 3,074, Kyle Aliven 2,840, Jonathan Howe 2,550, Damien Milne 1913, Ronnie Reimers 1,279, Robin Reimers 1,170, Thomas Heine 691, Telmong Kabua 679, and Baron Biger 639.
