Over the past two weeks the Canvasback Wellness Center in Majuro conducted a diabetes reversal program. Thirty-five participants learned how to fight non-communicable diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes.
Participants were taught the importance of exercise and reducing weight. A two-pound weight loss can help reduce the chance of getting diabetes by up to five percent. They were also taught how to cook local healthy food using vegetables grown at the Wellness Center gardens and what foods and drinks they should avoid.
Awards were given for the largest blood sugar loss and largest weight loss. Lutina Enos won first place for largest blood sugar loss with a total drop of 237 points. Herald Lemari won first place for a weight loss of eight pounds.
