This Friday will showcase a graduation of note and the soft opening of a new non-government organization building in Majuro.

Waan Aelon in Majel’s two-story offices and work facilities will have a soft opening Friday from 2pm. WAM’s new building replaces the workshop and office facilities that were destroyed by fire over two years ago.

The opening of the new building is combined with the graduation of the National Training Council/World Bank’s Education and Skills Strengthening Project-supported third training group of young Marshallese.

The group has been training for six months in a wide range of construction-related work, including hands-on experience building of the new WAM facility. They have also participated in English and math studies and a range of life skills activities to prepare them for re-entering formal education programs or gaining employment after graduation.

A total of 33 young Marshallese are in the training group that will graduate Friday. This includes 14 girls and 19 boys. It is the largest training group ever for WAM.
