Making Pacific Basin Payless a “choice” retailer on island is the goal for new General Manager Drew Barbour (pictured) who has been busy at the supermarket since arriving in late January.
Barbour succeeds Bill Good who was at the helm briefly after GM John Mason left last July after working for Payless for five years, both at its previous Delap and now Uliga location.
Barbour was a director for Southeastern Grocers in the United States for 12 years.
Southeastern Grocers is the parent company of BI-LO, Harveys, and Winn-Dixie grocery stores. Barbour previously was with Winn-Dixie in the Florida Keys.
A colleague of his from Winn-Dixie is expected to join the Majuro Payless team in mid-April as an assistant general manager to help Barbour lead the 91 staff at the Uliga store.
Barbour is on a two-year contract but is expecting more years with the company on island.
