Marshallese Lina Harry and Raelin T. Bing are in Busan, Republic of Korea to participate in the 2025 IMO-ITCP Global Onboard Training Program.
Lina graduated with a Certificate of Completion Rating Forming Part of a Navigation Watch in May 2025 from the College of the Marshall Islands Maritime Vocational Training Center. She is currently working for the RMI MIPD Sea Patrol.
Raelin is on her last semester to complete her two months of sea time and will graduate in May 2026 from the same certificate program.
The two young women were invited by the Ministry of Transportation, Communication and Information Technology’s Division of Maritime and Safety Director Joshua Lakabung.
While in Korea, Lina and Raelin are training with maritime students from other countries including Cook Islands, Kiribati, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, and Samoa.
Airfares, accommodations and meals are fully paid by the 2025 IMO-ITCP Global Onboard Training Program. The training consists of Basic Safety Training, Simulator Training, On-Board Training, Korean Culture Experiences, Korean Language Course, Field-trip to Maritime Industry, and Korea Maritime Week.
CMI Maritime Vocational Training Center Director Edward Adiniwin said he is hopeful “the experiences of Lina and Raelin will encourage other young Marshallese women to join the maritime profession in the Republic of the Marshall Islands.”
Applications for spring entry into CMI’s maritime certificate programs are due November 30.
