Wrestlers dominate RMI medals

The Marshall Islands total of 12 medals won during the Pacific Mini-Games in Palau earlier this month ranked it in the lower half of the 24 participating countries and territories.

The RMI medal total was better than only seven of the competing islands. The 12 RMI medals outpaced the numbers of medals for FSM, Kiribati, New Zealand, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Tokelau and Norfolk Island (which was the only participating island to leave Palau empty handed). Tahiti set the pace with most gold medals, 72, and most total medals, 142.

Due to RMI athletes winning five gold medals and since countries are ranked in the medal count by the number of their gold medals, the RMI was ranked number 10, immediately behind Palau, which also had five gold medals but had more than double the number of total medals of RMI at 29.

Marshall Islands wrestlers accounted for six of the 12 medals, including four of the five gold medals won.

Athletics brought in three, including one gold, and weightlifting won three bronze — all by Merean Atantaake.

Organizers of the Pacific Mini-Games in Palau produced a user-friendly website with easily accessible results for every sport, including the total medals count for the competition.

On the home page, it shows each of the 24 flags competing. These are clickable icons that take you to the results for each nation.

The individual sports competitions and the total medal results were updated daily throughout the 11 days of the competition.

The website can be viewed at: palau2025pmg.com.
