Majuro Atoll Local Government is slated to receive a continuing stream of funding from anchorage fees collected by Marshall Islands Ports Authority starting with $100,000 this year and an average of $40,000 to $50,000 annually in upcoming years.

The $100,000 “handshake” by Majuro Mayor Ladie Jack and Ports Authority Board Chair Robert Pinho last week at the Marshall Islands Resort sealed the deal.

Like every memorandum of agreement, there are certain standards MALGov must meet in order to continue receiving the anchorage fee.

Initially, the money would enhance public services in the airport area and would eventually cater to the 84 wetos (land parcels) that makes up the airport area.

All five Majuro senators joined ports leadership and MALGov executive members for the occasion, one that Senator David Kramer said has been in the works from previous administrations.

Discussion during the brief MOU meeting included erecting restrooms in both parks situated at opposite sides of the airport runway.
