Mulan John is the newest attorney in the Marshall Islands.
She was sworn in and admitted to the Marshall Islands bar to practice law during a ceremony Tuesday this week.
This follows her graduation from the University of the South Pacific’s law school in Vanuatu where she graduated with a bachelor of law and a professional diploma in legal practice.
She is a product of Marshall Islands High School who later attended and graduated from the USP Marshall Islands foundation or bridging program in Majuro before heading to USP Vanuatu.
Mulan said after Tuesday’s ceremony that she had found studying with USP overwhelming and appreciated the opportunity to learn so much about Pacific Island nations, their different systems and their unique cultures, advantages and challenges.
“The course is heavy and it comes with heavy expectations,” Mulan warned, “but you will come out a better version of yourself!”
Mulan’s aim is to work at the Attorney General’s Office and one day have her own legal practice.
Her advice for students intending to attend university:
- Prepare your mind. Be aware that you will have to handle pressure, stress and responsibility. You will need to develop self-awareness and time-management skills.
- You will be your own person – people will assume you have certain knowledge and skills.
- Be determined.
• Above all she recommends: “Always trust yourself.”
