After a few shipping delays, work deconstructing the capital building is now underway with a vengeance and is expected to be “completed in two months,” Pacific International Inc.’s Executive Project Manager Bobby Muller said Monday.

PII brought in a big yellow “heavy excavator” to do the muscle work on tearing down the iconic, mirrored structure.

“The excavator was custom-fitted with long-reach arms with various attachments to cut the metal and concrete,” Bobby said. “It has a regular arm for digging and a special arm for demolition.”

Joseph Mika is the operator of the LOVOL FR700F excavator.

The excavator was brought in specially for big jobs, but its arrival was delayed due to its size that required a container vessel that could handle it. It arrived on island about two weeks ago.

Bobby said the PII team “has been prepping the area for about two months.”
