P2 Marshalls buys out
A tough campaign waged over the question of accepting or rejecting the drafted Constitution of the Federated States of Micronesia resulted in a clear victory for FSM opponents in the district. Unofficial results as of July 23 gave the Jab (“no”) voters a 61.5 percent to 38.5 percent margin of victory. The outcome in a striking way mirrored earlier results of an unofficial referendum conducted by the Marshallese leadership earlier.

P10 Engineers: Ebeye overhaul needed
The US Army Corps of Engineers is recommending a major overhaul of Ebeye’s infrastructure, with the top priority being the non-working sewer system. “The sewer system was given a rating of ‘black’ (the most serious condition) because it is non-operational and the presence of raw sewage is a public health issue,” said the Ebeye 2010 Infrastructure Survey Report by the US Army Corps.
The survey was conducted earlier this year at Ebeye in close cooperation with Kwajalein Atoll Joint Utility Resources (KAJUR), local government officials, and the US Army Kwajalein Atoll, which requested the study. “For the last five years, raw sewage from the collection system has been directly pumped into the lagoon without treatment,” the report said.
