Two Marshallese were called to honor by the Springdale Police Department in Arkansas earlier this month.

Michelle Nashion was awarded the Dispatcher of the Year and commendation, and also received a commendation and Life Saving Award for response to a shooting at Parsons Stadium.

Officer Gomez Zackious was awarded a Medal of Valor and Purple Heart. The Purple Heart medal is in recognition of an officer or member of the military who is injured in the line of duty.

The awards were presented by Springdale Police Chief Frank Gamble.

The Springdale area hosts the largest concentration of Marshallese outside of the RMI. It is generally estimated that over 15,000 Marshallese live in Northwest Arkansas.
