Close to 30 teachers and counselors from the Public School System on Ebeye completed the Psychological First Aid course offered by the International Organization for Migration with assistance from Youth to Youth in Health last week.
According to facilitators, the training took one full day at the new Ebeye Public Elementary School. The curriculum was previously offered to members of the community and Kwajalein Atoll Local Government employees under supervision of IOM’s Sonia Tagoeleoagi.
“We did the same training at Jaluit Atoll,” Sonia told the Journal.
In the training, participants are taught how to respond to and seek assistance for people who have been traumatized by a disaster.
The training complements the Mental Health First Aid training provided to the community by the Marshall Islands Epidemiology and Prevention Initiative.
