An exciting and new development took place at University of the South Pacific earlier this month — blessing ceremony in celebration of the first ever student lounge.

Witnessing the ceremony were USP alumni, staff, students, National Training Council Director Julius Lucky and Ministry of Education representatives.

The idea for a student lounge came from the students themselves, said Siosiua Nikua, who was the master of ceremony.

“This space is a place where friendships will be formed, ideas will be shared, and memories will be made throughout their time here at USP,” said Alliah Marie Agustin, speaking on behalf of the students.

She gave recognition to everyone who was present at the ceremony. She expressed her gratitude to the students of RMI USP and Campus Center for sharing their ideas to her about having a student lounge.

She also extended her gratitude to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr. Giulio Paunga, for listening to the students, and for prioritizing this project for the students needs.

She thanked the admininistration, Acting Director Setoki Qalubau, and Finance Office for taking the necessary steps to get things done.

“The student lounge will be a place for our students to feel safe and that they are at home — a place where students can unwind after a long day of classes, catch up with friends, or even find a quiet corner to study. This will be a place for students where they will be able to start their endeavors during and after their time at USP,” said Alliah.

“This space is for the students, so let’s continue to make it a place where everyone feels heard, supported, included, and inspired. As students, let us embrace the opportunities and achievements that await us in this student lounge and make unforgettable memories,” she added.

A tour of the lounge and enjoying food was how USP and guests ended their week.
