The Wellness Center held a blessing ceremony Monday for its two new vehicles: the Waan Lomor, a product of collaboration among New Zealand Foreign Ministry, Taiwan Health Center, LDS Charities, the RMI Health Ministry, MALGov, REACH-MI, and Canvasback, as well as a brand new pickup truck, donated by MALGov.
Health Minister Kalani Kaneko, Majuro Mayor Ladie Jack, Canvasback Co-founder Jacque Spence and Wellness Center Director Tanner Smith were on hand for the breaking of a fresh coconut across the trailer and truck hitch.
Both vehicles will help in mobilizing for the battle against the RMI’s biggest health threat, non-communicable diseases, said Kaneko and Jack. Spence said while other jurisdictions have the resources, we have programs in schools, the TV, and on the radio, all of which she never envisioned would have come out of establishing a Wellness Center.
