Marshall Islands Chess Federation made its debut on the international stage earlier this month during the BugHouse Chess competition in Philippines.
BugHouse is a unique chess game where two players face off against two other players — what is eliminated from other chess boards gets to be used in your teammates’ chess board
The game is much faster than regular chess.
If you capture a knight from your opponent, that piece is added to your teammate as an extra piece.
Representing the Marshall Islands Chess Federation was Vice President Abon Arelong along with two players, Brian “Eka” Joab from Ebeye and Javid Bruce John from Majuro.
The event was sponsored by the international organization WR Chess. WR Chess CEO Wadim Rosenstein personally invited Oceania federations during an earlier chess conference in Singapore to participate in this month’s competition in the Philippines.
