Students in the new Marine Science Certificate program at the College of the Marshall Islands have teamed up remotely with freshman students studying coral reef management at the University of Minnesota.

Through Skype meetings, emails and document sharing, students have been learning about coral reefs and the process of scientific investigation. While Professor Michael Honeth’s students at CMI are familiar with their natural environment, Dr. Jim Perry’s students in Minnesota contribute their academic experiences, and together they benefit from the synergy created by their individual strengths.

Such groundbreaking collaboration using technologies available to us, may become the classroom of the future in a globally-connected world where everyone benefits, said Honeth.
