All of the votes cast nationwide in the constitutional convention election were tabulated within a day or two of the July 10 vote and included in the results announced for the domestic vote — with one exception.
Due to communications challenges, the results tabulated in Ebon Atoll could not be communicated by phone. As a result, the Ebon regular vote and absentee votes cast for other islands from Ebon had to wait until last Friday, July 17, when the MV Aelonlaplap carrying the locked ballot boxes from Ebon under police escort arrived in Majuro.
As of Sunday July 19, the Electoral Administration had a final unofficial count for the domestic vote in the ConCon election and announced this on V7AB radio and on social media.
As Electoral staff were preparing to input the Ebon tabulation last Saturday, Chief Electoral Officer Benjamin Kiluwe told the Journal that once “all national tallies are inputted, we will only be left with the incoming postals which the deadline is next Friday (July 24). On Saturday after counting and tabulation of postal votes, we’ll finally have the final official results.”
Kiluwe said he is only expecting a couple of hundred postal ballots based on the number requested by off-island voters and mailed by the Electoral Administration.
