Assumption high schoolers received 24 new laptops — four traditional and 20 Chromebooks — from alumni and friends of the school. A total of 81 donors raised $8,500 through the GoFundMe campaign. Principal Biram Stege is happy that the students will “be more connected to the modern world.” With all other computers broken, she added, it was an opportune time for the laptops to come in.

“We’re very thankful,” a student shared with the Journal. “It’s pretty cool because the technology at the school is really un-advanced,” another said, “it’s new and weird, but it gives us a chance to take ourselves out there.”

From getting the best laptop deal to covering shipping and packing the Chromebooks with care, the few who went “above and beyond” included Tina Stege, Chris Leon, Ina Smith, Evelyn Konou and Dan Smith.
