The extremely deteriorated building that housed the Life Skills Academy inside the Marshall Islands High School compound is pushing the three-year curriculum back to square one: school starts after regular school hours.
Starting Monday, LSA students and teachers began using the Majuro Middle School and Marshall Islands High School classrooms from 3:30 until 7:00pm.
LSA will continue its administrative operation from the school office, a separate building near the damaged building. Principal Lazarus Tiberke said they plan on setting up a tent between the school garden and its head office to accommodate students who will begin courses at 1:30pm in an attempt to cover more classes given the limited classroom hours.
Although the Public Service Commission (PSS) deemed the move as temporary, teachers are concerned their students would be more prone to engage in unwanted activities given the night hours and little or no supervision for students when school finishes at seven.
