MIMRA-Namdrik marine deal

Namdrik Mayor Clarence Luther, left, and NRC Minister Sandy Alfred, right, shake after the new MIMRA-Namdrik Atoll Local Government partnership signing. With them is Namdrik Member of Parliament Wisely Zackhras and MIMRA Director Glen Joseph.

The Marshall Islands Marine Resources Authority and Namdrik Atoll Local Government signed a one-year agreement for MIMRA to fund technical support for projects in Namdrik as a recipient of the Reimaanlok (Looking to the Future) conservation management process.

The projects include support for reviving the pearl farm in Namdrik and other activities related to marine protected areas, sustainable livelihoods, capacity building, and education and awareness.

Namdrik Senator Wisely Zackhras and Natural Resources and Commerce Minister Sandy Alfred signed the new agreement earlier this month.
“Bringing good results from positive reinforcement from MIMRA,” said Alfred, who chairs MIMRA’s board.

Those joining Alfred and Zackhras at the signing of the agreement were Namdrik Mayor Clarence Luther, MIMRA Director Glen Joseph, Deputy Director for Coastal Fisheries Florence Edwards, MIMRA Legal Counsel Laurence Edwards, II, and MIMRA Chief Financial Officer Saturnino Acibo.
