Nauru eyes Honolulu route

Nauru Airlines delegation recently met with President Hilda Heine, center, and members of the Cabinet and the RMI Aviation Task Force.

A Nauru Airlines delegation met with the RMI Cabinet at the end of June to discuss opportunities for air service to Honolulu.

This followed on a meeting between Nauru Airlines representatives, led by Deputy Minister of Aviation Maverick Eoe, and a large gathering of aviation-related business people and RMI agencies.

On June 26, the Nauru Airlines delegation met with Transportation Minister Hilton Kendall and representatives of the Aviation Task Force, AMI, Directorate of Civil Aviation, Ports Authority, and others.

The following day, the delegation met with the RMI Cabinet and presented a proposed air service plan, including routes, costs and estimated fares.

The Cabinet-appointed Aviation Task Force is seeking Cabinet backing for “support funding” for air service by Nauru Airlines linking Majuro to Honolulu. Nauru Airlines management is in discussions with Cabinet about supporting this flight that would involve cooperation between Nauru Airlines and RMI government and Air Marshall Islands through an operating agreement if a deal is agreed to.

After visiting RMI, the Nauru Airlines delegation visit Guam to meet with Guam Governor Lourdes Leon Guerrero, Lt. Governor Joshua Tenorio, and AB Won Pat International Airport Authority officials to discuss potential air service by Nauru Airlines to Guam, reported www.ch-aviation.com.
