President Heine to be USP chancellor

Prior to her installment this week as the 26th Chancellor of the University of the South Pacific (USP), President Hilda Heine and First Gentleman Tommy Kijiner, Jr. visited the USP Campus in Suva where she met USP Vice Chancellor and President Professor Pal Ahluwalia, Pro-Chancellor and Chair of the USP Council Winston Thompson, members of the USP Senior Management Team, and other USP officials Monday.

President Heine and the First Gentleman also paid a courtesy visit to Fiji President Major General Jioji Konusi Konrote, Retired, at Borron House. She was to be installed as the Chancellor later in the week.

After departing Fiji, President Heine will attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York later this month. The RMI is co-leading the Youth and Public Mobilization track at the Climate Action Summit on Monday, September 23.

Before taking part in the Climate Action Summit, President Heine will be addressing the Youth Summit, attending the Pacific Leaders meeting, meeting with the Coalitions of Climate Action Summit and attending the Opening of the Adaptation and Resilience Coalition Event that are all being held in New York City in lead up to the UN Secretary General’s Climate Action Summit.
