A big celebration for “a job well-done for our teachers to celebrate the School Year 2025-26, and a kick-off for the SY26-27,” was held at the ECC gym last Friday with hundreds of Public School System staff and teachers participating in games, awards and a raffle.

Teachers of the Year and Principals/Head Teachers of the Year were awarded, as well as some other smaller prizes.

“We celebrate Teacher Appreciation Day in Majuro during the school year, so this is a way to extend the celebrations to teachers from other islands, too,” Dr. Natalie Nimmer, PSS Commissioner, told the Journal.

“Starting this weekend, educators will begin traveling back to their home islands after a full summer of trainings,” she added.

Trainings that were held this past summer included Child Protection, Literacy, Autism and Neurodiversity, Multi-Grade Teaching, TVET, Math, Science, Education Technology, Family Life Education, Social Citizenship Education, WASH, Menstrual Hygiene, Special Education Institute and so much more.

“I think we had more than 30 options during the last six weeks,” Nimmer said.

All public schools are scheduled to open on August 17.
