It was judgment day for the hospital last Friday, as stated in a press release from the desk of the Ministry of Health and Human Services Secretary Julia Alfred — well, a jolly judgment day.
“For the very first time in history, the leadership of MOHH organized a 2017 department Christmas competition,” Alfred said. “The ultimate purpose of the competition was to raise the spirit of love and peace and improve attitudes and strengthen morale by reviving and promoting the spirit of teamwork, pride and respectable customer service.”
Of the 32 departments that participated in the event, 10 will receive prizes.
To prevent conflict of interest, Major Nancy Ball and Captain Virginia Anwot from the Salvation Army and Donna Utter from Island Radio judged each department using a five-criteria formula.
Prior to judgment day, staff were busy decorating while some pulled all-nighters to tidy up decorations.
Performances by Salvation Army, Meram in Jesus and Kumit Bobrae jeptas, topped with spontaneous solo dances by Doctors David Ackley and Zacharias Zacharias heightened the Christmas spirit.
“It is our hope that this will be a good beginning in the New Year to motivate and remind staff members that we need each other to celebrate the goodness of this Ministry as well as to address our shortfalls,” Alfred said. “We need to work together as a team.”

Tenth: Maternity Ward
Ninth: Rehabilitation Ward
Eighth: Human Services
Seventh: Information Desk
Sixth: Hospital Administration & Office of Health Planning
Fifth: Human Resource
Fourth: Housekeeping
Third: Primary Health Care Administration
Second: Tuberculosis Program and Clinic
First: Radiology Department.
